...although since surpassed by the Zichek book.
When this book first appeared in 2005 it seemed likely to be the definitive reference on the obscure XF8B-1 for some time to come. But just two years later the 400 page(!) hardcover(!) by Jared Zichek appeared proving that the enthusiast's taste for the obscure and off the beaten track is insatiable.
But fortunately there are still good reasons to pick this book up even if one has Zichek's (and vice versa). It is only a quarter of the price and there is no noticeable overlap in the illustrations - and there are lots of fine photographs and contemporary manual drawings in this book.
The book itself is a typical Naval Fighters offering; stapled, 8-1/2" x 11", 64 page stapled card cover with color restricted to the front and rear covers. Author Koehnen seems to have researched his subject well. There are a few editing glitches (not unusual for the Naval Fighters series) but they do not detract unduly from the product.
All in all highly recommended whether one owns the Zichek book or not.
