I purchased this book hoping to learn more about how to fly the Boeing 747. I have recently purchased the PMDG 747-400 add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator, and thought to expand my learning beyond the PMDG's manual.
The book turned out to be non-technical, and geared towards children. Every page is illustrated in color, with color photographs of the cockpit.
Though the book is very basic, I did enjoy reading it and learnt some fun facts in the process:
(a)A fully loaded jumbo jet hurtles down the runway at about 195 miles per hour just before it takes off--that's about the same as the top speed of a Formula 1 racing car!
(b)The total area of a 747-400's two wings is about 5,600 square feet. That's big enough to allow parking space for about 45 cars!
(c)A 747-400 can carry enough fuel to fill 10 fuel trucks!
The book is very well written and children will love it. It will take no more than 15 minutes for a child to read it. There are only 24 pages in all, including the index. There is a small booklet included titled, "The pilot's handbook--everything you've ever wanted to know about being a pilot and more." There is also a paper 747 that a child can assemble, as well as a poster of the 747.
Don't be surprised if your child ends up wanting to become a 747 captain.
