this is another great airplane book by Jim Winchester. it has the same format as the ww2 airplane book that he wrote, Aircraft of World War II (The Aviation Factfile). this book has wonderful info on modern planes and even some older jets. if you love modern planes this is a must have book.

Really excellent book with interesting format of facts and pictures plus comparisons to other similar aircraft. Unique. A true value and very addictive to read. Includes mostly color photos reproduced in high detail quality! Lots of fun facts and history, really a great book, I plan on getting more in the series. Aircraft (and helicopters) have 2 page gatefold, nice side view and either front or top view paintings, data sheet, and very cool weapons delivery side bar drawings as well as development, stories from Vietnam, Korea, Gulf War etc. Pictures are outstanding and show all types of livery from all over the world including anniversary painted craft, and aerobatic military schemes- very well done. Simply one of the most interesting formats I've seen. Buy it, enjoy it and get the rest in the series, I am!

Though the Cold War was responsible for decades of suspicion and mistrust between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, it was also responsible for an amazing leap forward in aircraft research, design, and development. The wild blue yonder never looked so exciting!• Military Aircraft of the Cold War covers each plane in great detail and is filled with over 2,000 illustrations and photos of each plane in action.• Each spread highlights the fascinating journey from concept and design to combat missions. Photo files, action data, facts and figures, maps, and other innovative graphics bring the action to life!• Sit behind the controls of a B-52 Strato Fortress! This awesome plane began its service in 1952 and will likely continue to fly until 2040-a tribute to the designers and engineers who developed it.

Civil Aircraft (The Aviation Factfile) Review

I recently purchased this book and have thoroughly enjoyed it. It provides good history and great pictures, but in the technical data, there are tons of mistakes in the conversion from the metric system to the imperial system. For example in comparing the range between two aircraft, one aircraft has a longer range than the other when looking at the range in kilometers, but it is the other way around when looking at miles. The other complaint is that the book leaves out several aircraft which have been around for a while when this book was published, for example the 777 and A340.

Boeing and Airbus may dominate today's commercial aircraft market, but there are dozens of smaller manufacturers producing excellent airplanes to service short- and medium-distance routes. Dozens of these commercial aircraft—from the immortal Douglas DC-3 to the unrivaled Boeing 747—are covered here, along with business jets, leisure aircraft, and police and firefighting aircraft from around the world. 600 color and archival black-and-white photographs are included.
